Helping You Keep Your Car Air Conditioner Running in Tiptop Shape All Through the Year

Posted on: 25 July 2016

Air conditioning is no longer only for high-end, luxury cars. These days, almost every new car model comes with air-conditioning as a standard feature. Besides making sure to take your car's air conditioner for annual service, there are other things you can do to avoid cases of AC failure during the year.

Run your AC regularly

Naturally, you might reason that it is prudent to turn off your car's AC system during the cold days, but that is not the way to go, as stopping your use of the AC system for lengthy periods can culminate in wear of seals and gaskets and also faster loss of refrigerant. Hence, it is best to run your AC on a regular basis, even if it is on the coldest of days. This will make sure that the various components of your AC, including hoses, pumps, and valves are kept properly lubricated.

Sanitize your AC system

Air filters are meant to ensure that the occupants of your car inhale clean air. If these filters are not replaced, they can get clogged with dirt and dust, which are human health hazards. Replacing any dirty filter with a new one is the most appropriate fix to avoid poor air quality. This is particularly beneficial for patients with asthma or allergies.

Your auto specialist can also provide you with special treatments designed to rid of any mold, fungi, and bacteria growing on your AC system. Mites and nasty bugs can also invade the inside of your car. Ultrasonic technology, for instance, can be used to detect the presence of these disease-causing elements, and antibacterial solutions injected to sanitize the interiors of your car. This way, you can be sure of a clean, nice-smelling interior that is good for your health and that of your passengers.

Re-gas when necessary

It is not always the case that the AC system is incorporated into your car's standard log book service. Therefore, it can be easily ignored. Each time you take your car to the auto repair shop to have it serviced, make sure to ask the staff to establish the refrigerant level and refill the refrigerant if need be.

Don't sit back and wait for your auto air conditioning to break down before you give it some attention.  Pay close attention to any slight change in its operation and have the issue checked out at your auto shop as soon as possible. This way, you can be sure to make the most out of your air conditioning.
